means ” You know, the activity of reading the Qur’an is absolutely recommended (anytime and anywhere) except under certain conditions which are forbidden by the Shari’ah. I will mention it now what I remember briefly without mentioning the evidence because it is famous, ” (See Imam An-Nawawi, At-Tibyan fi Adabi Hamalatil Qur’an [Indonesia, Al-Haramain: tanpa tahun] page 93).

Imam An-Nawawi then mentioned in detail the time and place that should be avoided to read the Qur’an because ma kruh:

  1. At the time of bowing ‘.
  2. At the time of prostration.
  3. At the time of tasyahud.
  4. At the time of performing other pillars of prayer other than at the time of standing.
  5. when the makmum listens to the imam reciting the Qur’an in the jahar prayer (maghrib, isya, and subuh).
  6. When in the toilet.
  7. When drowsy.

  9. During the sermon.

Imam An-Nawawi added, readers of the Qur’an also need to pay attention to manners in reading the holy book. For example, he was advised to stop his activity for a while while drowsy in the middle of reading the Qur’an. (Imam An-Nawawi: 95).

In connection with this, Imam An-Nawawi quoted a hadith narrated by Imam Muslim who advised people to shut their mouths when yawning.

Thus, one needs to stop for a moment the activity of reading the Qur’an while yawning because it is recommended to close his mouth for a moment. Once completed, he can resume his noble activities, reading the Qur’an. Wallahu a’lam
